Natasha Gelman was the wife of a famous and prosperous film-producer, Jaques Gelman. The painting was commissioned by Mr. Gelman. In the portrait, the glamorous Mrs. Gelman is clad in a white gown and reclines on a divan against a background of large bouquets of calla lilies. The calla lily, a flower often associated with the Virgin Mary.

Proverbs 31:30-31
